Sally Kirkland is recovering in hospital after breaking her leg in two places in a fall from the stage at an awards show.
The accident happened as the 71-year-old actress accepted an award at the Studio City Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Kirkland was making herway to the stage at the Complete Actors Place Theater to accept her award for Best Actress In A Dramatic Short.

Along with breaking her leg, the blonde actress also dislocated her ankle when she took the spill.
She blames her fall on poor lighting at the event.
Following her fall Kirkland was rushed by ambulance to St Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, where she underwent emergency surgery on Monday.
Her leg was fitted with a metal plate and screws.
Blonde bombshell: Sally was a prolific actress in the 1980s, starring here in the comedy Cold Feet in 1989The actress's friend Dea Vise wrote on Kirkland's Facebook page: 'She is having surgery today and will be home in a few days and sadly won't be able to walk for three months.'
A spokeswoman for Kirland told TMZ: 'Currently suffering from extreme pain, Sally remains hospitalized following a successful surgery to repair the injuries resulting from her fall.'
He added that despite the circumstances: 'Sally is in good spirits and is optimistic about her recovery.'
Kirkland performed in the play The Deep Throat Sex Scandal last week in Los Angeles.
Her films include The Sting, The Way We Were, Private Benjamin and A Star Is Born.
